I hope my thread isn't too much Off topic
I'm studyng at the University, and I have to do a linguistic project about differences between italian website language and the English one
I'm a moderator of an important Italian Forum and I'd like to analyze how an english moderator could understand the identity of a fake ( I don't know if you use this word in the same way of us: for italian people a fake is someone who pretends to be someone else)
for example:
"my" forum is for teenagers, but it often happens that adults pretends to be girls ( probably they don't want only a simple friendship)
I understand that they are not girls , or teenagers in general, when they speak too much about sex, or they use a written language too much "young".
could you help me?
could you tell me how do you understand that someone is a fake?

You mean fakers, well i guess we usually get spammers who try to fake themselves as normal users and try to post some long post but at the end try to put a url to their spammy site. Other ways to identify a faker is ask him few questions like where is he she from and then check their ip address and if it doesnt match then most likely he or she is trying to fake. Allow some times for other moderators to see this thread and post their comments.

in italy girls use:
nickname whit many symbols, like: .:C.3ra.uNa.v0ltA:. or ^_^Ëlê^_^
different fonts and colours
signature with lots of images and quotations from songs or films
alternate capital letters whit small letters, like : I'm GiUlIa FrOm RoMe

does it happens in english forum?
which are the most used nickname for girls? are they diminutives?
have you got the habit to put the birth's year at the end of the nickname like: Nemesi86?

There are actually several ways to tell someone is not being who they say they are. The easiest way is to ask them a couple of questions about how they look, and if they start off by saying how hot they are, or that they like to do things that are pretty nasty, then they are probably a fake. As far as this happening, it does all the time, and in a lot of places. I mean usually, people who are fakers can be caught if you ask other people to ask them some of the same questions, and then see if they compare.
